The Making of a Multrepreneur

Dear Rain,

I have so many goals, aspirations and desires. How do I decide which one to tackle first and can I work on more than one at a time?

Dear Reader,

I love your question as it runs close to my heart. Congratulations on the recognition of your dreams! This is a huge step many have not yet taken, so give yourself a big Yahoo! How to decide which to do first and is it possible to do them all at once are great questions. So now I have a question for you:

How many hours do you have each day to work towards your dreams?

If you have another full time job, I highly recommend you take one dream at a time.

If you are at home more often than not, then yes, being a multrepreneur is absolutely possible and there are a lot of people out there doing it, myself included. There are many pros and cons to having many businesses at once. Having more than one always keeps your energy up, so you will have many different ways to always move forward, creating less boredom. On the flip side, that can also become a life where you are always working, just ask my husband!

So let’s answer the question of which one first. Let me pull out my handy-dandy Wow Factor Scale Ooooo, isn’t it shiny?

Here is how it works:

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being, “What was I thinking when I thought of that insane idea?” and 10 being, “Nobody better hold me back, because I can’t wait to jump on this dream-train today!” Go ahead and rate each dream. As you do, really image the reality of each dream coming true. For example, if you want to be a writer, imagine the reality of having to write most every day for hours. If you want to own a store, imagine the reality of having to do bookkeeping or standing in your store for hours most every day.

Once you have applied the Wow Factor Scale to each of your dreams, which one of your dreams was rated with the highest points? If you had two or more dreams scoring the highest points, then it’s time to begin your Multrepreneur Time Management Program!

Note: If you do have another full time job, keep putting your top dreams through the Wow Factor Scale, with more visualizations of the reality of everyday life, until you can pick only one.

My Multrepreneur Time Management Program is time tested to not only get a lot of work done, but you will stay inspired as you work!

Here is how it works:

Once a week on Sunday or Monday (or whenever your week seems to begin,) make a list of tasks you are sure you can absolutely accomplish during your week that move you towards living your many businesses. I always encourage clients to add one or two bonus ideas, in case they finish everything by Tuesday! Believe me, inspiration is an amazing energy source, so it’s good to have some backup tasks! As you start your work week, ask yourself each hour as you look over your list, “What would I love to be doing right now?” Follow your first instinct and do the task on your list you are most drawn to. Work only on that task for an hour or less, if you finish the task. At the top of the next hour look at your list, and ask yourself, “What would I love to do most, right now?” Again follow your first instinct. It may be to continue to work on what you were doing last hour, or you may pick something new.

It helps to have a timer in the beginning as you get used to the habit of asking yourself what you want to each hour. Also, remember to cross items off your list as you complete each task. Now at some point, you may look at your list and say, “I wouldn’t love to do anything on this list right now!” That is great! This is your natural way of taking a break, which is important for your health and well-being!

In that case, ask yourself the same question, “What would I love to do most, right now?” This time, choose anything in the world that is not on your list. You may choose to read a book, take a nap, go for a walk, eat some lunch, talk to your friends or go sky-diving. (I didn’t say it was all possible in this hour, yet it is important to be truly honest with yourself and put those kinds of items on your list of dreams!) After your break at the top of the hour, go back to your list. If you still don’t want to do anything on your list, take another break. Trust that your mind, body and heart knows what it needs and wants. A big part of becoming an entrepreneur is trusting yourself!

Caution: If you are taking 3 or more days of all-day hourly breaks, there might be something on your list causing you fear, which I am afraid is a whole other Ask Rain column!

You will feel a huge sense of accomplishment each week as you cross things off your list. And you will see yourself moving steadily towards your goals. If you don’t finish everything on your list, no worries, just add it to the next week. This is about moving forward, not beating yourself up. Stay positive and watch yourself grow.

Using this program will motivate you to create one or many businesses all at once. You can stay inspired, get things done on your own terms and best of all, have the time of your life!

By the way, this is the time of your life, so go ahead and start blazing your trail!

smiles and inspiration!
