What is a Life Coach, anyway?

Dear Rain,

I have heard a lot about life coaching lately. What is a life coach and how are they different from a therapist/counselor? Why would I see a life coach?

Dear Reader,

I am glad you asked about life coaching. People are often curious about what I do.

A life coach creates and environment that encourages an individual's ability to focus on what their goals are, make effective changes, achieve desired success and maximize fulfillment in life. In a bite, a life coach is a lot like a sport coach, except the game is the game of your life. There is usually a process of inner discovery, which results in outer transformations, which creates surprising success stories.

Life coaching is not counseling or therapy. I remember, when I first heard of a life coach, I assumed it was a bit like counseling. What I discovered was instead on focusing on a finding a specific diagnosis or problem to help the client, coaching views clients as whole and healthy focusing on setting goals to help the client. Counseling is focused on healing the past, while in coaching supports clients to practice being present and help create dynamic futures.

Coaches will listen for obstacles that have been stopping clients from living the life they desire, they will encourage clients to learn tools to live in a stronger and more honest direction.

Finally, a coach stays as a consistent support of accountabilityto heighten and quicken their success. Instead of only once a week, most coaches encourage clients to connect with them during the week, to keep the creation of a positive flow.

As an inspirational life coach, my focus is on the connections and power we have as spiritual beings having a human experience. This encourages clients to dare to dream big and follow their bliss.

You might see a life coach to help you through a life change, in careers, relationships, or even perceptions. You might want to improve your confidence, your income or your spiritual connections. You might want to expand your ideas, balance your schedule or want support to succeed during difficult times. There are many great reasons to hire a life coach. Just look to yourself to see if you are ready to grow!

Smiles and success,

Rain
