Practicality Pundit Preys on Passions
Practicality Pundit
Dear Rain,

How do you find your passion? How do you know it is your passion? What kind of affirmations could you say that could help you find a life passion?

Dear Reader,

Passion is one of my favorite things. I remember being told so many times in my life that I was too passionate. Luckily, these days I see the benefits of being passionate and it has created a career where I help others see their passions. Yahoo!!!

We all are passionate about something. Whether positive or negative, there is something out there… that stirs up the emotions in us. Many of us growing up were told our passions were not important or that we could never make a living doing our passions. If we listened to these well meaning authority figures, we might have put a damper on our natural intuition for our desires.

This damper is a creature I like to call your Practicality Pundit. This authority figure that lives inside you is always telling you what you “should” do and to always be practical. “Dreams are for children,” the Practicality Pundit will tell you. “Always think about what could happen if you fail!” The Practicality Pundit is your darkest skeptic who loves to be in control. Give her your ear, and she will take over your life.

Despite having PP on your mind, finding one’s passion is really easy if you ask the magic wish questions. Answer the question below and see if you are being controlled by the Practicality Pundit.

I have a magic wand. I am going to grant you any three wishes that your heart most truly desires. There are no boundaries, no impossibilities, no limits. So what is your first wish?

Many times this first wish is enough to spark someone’s fire. Other times, the Practicality Pundit comes out and stops you from dreaming. I can hear your Pundit when your answers are, “I want to make enough to make the rent.” or “I want to pay off my car.” As a coach, my mind immediately thinks, why pay rent, if you can wish for a house? And why would you pay off a car, when you can wish for a limo and chauffer? It is easy to recognize it is not your authentic voice speaking. Through more work together, and asking the right questions, the Practicality Pundit has no choice, but to step aside and allow you to really dream.

It is through dreaming that we find our heart’s desire and passions. Once you open that wish box and play inside a few times you will start to see reoccurring ideas and dreams. One wish may be that you want to fly. Your Practicality Pundit is saying, “People can’t fly!”

That so far seems to be true.... however, I am not here to see what you can’t do, I am here to dream with you to see what you can do. For example, you may become:

  • a pilot
  • someone who travels by plane
  • an Ornithologist
  • or someone who works for the Museum of Flight

Now if the first wish is very strong, but the career options will not work for you, I will tell you to do something to fulfill the first wish before you wish again. Strong, unmet passions can be the reason you are unable to see your second wish. A few ways to fulfill the first wish to fly, without worrying about changing careers might be:

  • take a hot air balloon ride
  • take a plane ride
  • take a helicopter ride
  • go hang gliding

Now make the next wish and continue to play with the 3 wishes to see if you are living your life with passion.

Here is an affirmation to help you find your passion:
“I allow myself to live my life Passionately!”

smiles and inspiration!
